FASHION IS ART & YOU ARE THE CANVAS
We had so much fun putting together this blog for you! We always aim to educate with a bit of sass and inspiration so that you feel confident about your own curated selection of clothing as you get dressed each morning.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE IN A GALLERY TO MAKE AN EXHIBITION OF YOURSELF
- Ted Baker -
STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
However great the trend of the moment is, we love for our LIBERTÉ ladies to stand out from the crowd, however great that crowd may be! And we may have potentially gone a little crazy with the paint splatter in the previous photos, but OMG we had so much FUN! We just wanted you to know what the shirt looks like with our creative embellishments 😉
WORK OF ART
Blue Shirt Shop spring collection becomes a literal work of art! Bits of color, a little paint splatter, mostly just amazing essentials that you shouldn't be living without! We've created collaborations using Blue Shirt Shop as our initial inspiration and blending in Only Hearts, DL1961 and of course sprinkled with Theia jewelry as a finishing touch. We are loving this exhibit of fashion and art - where does one end and the other begin?
LET YOUR STYLE BE YOUR SELF PORTRAIT
You don't want to look like everyone else, and the beauty is- you don't! You are individual, even in your basics. The same item looks different on every woman. You make it yours, you make it new, you make it unique! Your style paints a picture of who you are. Let's paint the most beautiful picture we can! Today's look features rose gold jewelry in delicate designs that are not only unique and interesting, but require a closer look since they're not obnoxiously oversized and/or simple. Your self portrait is unfinished work, it evolves and changes every day - we are women, we are unpredictable and layered.
YOU: THE PERFECT CANVAS
And the perfect canvas deserves the perfect art! We love these tiny bracelets, they mix and match, stack, layer and shine! Delicate and feminine in rose gold, they're just so very pretty. We love them as gifts, too. Pick 3 and give them as friendship bracelets! Because they're so simple, they mix right into your existing jewelry collection, and your girlfriends' too.
IS IT STILL FASHION IF NO ONE IS LOOKING?
The denim dress has a niche. It's not for everyone and it's not for everywhere. It's the piece you pull when you want something comfortable, casual and on trend. One of the most popular denim dress styles is the shirt dress. It's basically a long version of a denim shirt and this one can be belted, either with the included tie, or with your own belt! What I think is the best way to wear a shirt dress is with heels and bare legs. The contrast of the amount of denim covering your torso combined with the bare legs and extra length is fantastic. It makes you look slimmer, more chic and gorgeous. This season you'll see more and more fashionistas that are rocking it!
A genuine smile goes a long way, and you'll need fabulous jewelry for the journey! Have you ever noticed that a smile instantly improves your mood? Yes, we smile when we are happy, but it's a two way street. The good news is that while it’s sometimes hard to control our emotions, it’s much easier to control our muscles. So teach yourself how to use your body to trick your brain, and you'll be boosting your happiness, tranquility and confidence. And, to match your sparkling new mood, we recommend these cleverly designed earrings. The long strands are constantly moving so they're always catching light and sparkling. With the unique shape and neutral color scheme they'll pair with more outfits than you'd ever guess! #sparkleon !
THE JOY OF DRESSING IS AN ART -John Galliano
Some outfits just make a girl happy to wear them. I think the shimmery sand color of this tunic, paired with distressed white denim just says "HAPPY". It's neutral, so it's not loud or in your face about it, but the overall theme has a light and positive vibe. It's also very feminine and sweet- the top features a very open knit so it breathes well and can be worn all through the summer for very lady like coverage proving you don't need frills or ruffles to be a girly girl. You can nail a feminine look without that silly stuff!
MEET THE ARTIST (YOU!)
There's a bit of artist in each of us. Even those who deny it! But we create, every day- we create. Some people wear that "creative" hat like a crown- throwing paint around and constructing beautiful things, while others are less obvious about it. We are all pieces of art, mixed media to be truthful! Bedecked, trimmed and decorated by the items we choose!
We love the contrast of a nice polished piece with frayed edges. The look has unrelenting charisma and draw. It's an updated twist on a classic denim dress, which is so hot right now. We keep seeing our favorite fashion loving celebs kicking around in denim dresses and making them look absolutely adorable! We decided to give it a try ourselves and it turns out, they're just as fun as they look! Plus it's that easy, all in one outfit we love. Don't get too caught up in complicating things when the easy answer is just as rewarding... Just make sure to leave the edges unfinished ;)
The symbolization of the plumeria flower depends on the culture; for example, it represents perfection in Hawaii, immortality in India and a woman's relationship status in Polynesia. Meaning often gets misinterpreted anyway, so things may as well have multiple meanings. It seems fitting, doesn't it? Tiny pave set crystals and a gorgeous contoured shape that allows it to lay across two fingers draw a gasp from many of our female clients. "It's SO SO PRETTY!" they exclaim. "I KNOW! Buy it!" we say! Because I have heard it so many times, and I know the lady will be receiving even more compliments if she were to take it home and call it her own. After all, it is perfection!
MAKE IT POP
Two tone fashion is a simple yet elegant way to add variety to every outfit. This pink and black color combo is reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn but in today's layer loving world! We love the "hibiscus" colored denim that matches perfectly with tank and the shimmering detail of the cardigan. The long vertical lines that separate pink from black gives the whole thing a more dynamic look. We went heavy on the jewelry, a long necklace with some presence because the contrast of the outfit called for something that really had some strength and tie it all together.
BE MYSTERIOUS BUT DON'T LET YOUR STYLE BE A SECRET
One of the most seductive traits a woman can have is her element of mystery... saying something with her eyes rather than her words. There's something about not giving everything away that keeps them guessing ... and really, keeps them hooked. Your style is a way of speaking that's much louder than words, and much like art - it largely relies on interpretation. Dark gunmetal with glamorous sparkle can have a dramatic and intimidating mood to it. We still think of it as edgy and cool, but the pieces together all say "I'm fun and fearless" at least to us. What do they say to you?
SIMPLE NOT BORING
Some art is complicated and cluttered with many many details, and these types are admired and loved by many. However, some people are drawn to the big abstract pieces that use minimal colors and shapes. It creates a more serene and peaceful environment. What is more simple than a crisp white button down and denim shorts? A personal favorite, this look just drives me crazy. It's like something out of song lyrics, the kind everyone sings along to because it's seem to be speaking so much truth! Art is very much the same, something just rings true inside you. This is why some people are drawn to certain pieces while others are completely turned off. Find yours, and display it proudly!
COLOR ME PRETTY
This is what I call using your color wisely! The crisp white shirt paired with denim may leave you feeling a little unsatisfied, so a delicate yet colorful bracelet helps to delight the senses. The unaligned stones and random colors are chaos to the orderliness of the outfit, giving it perfect harmony. And isn't that the whole point?
TOGETHER OR SEPARATE
Don't feel obligated to wear your jewelry as a set. Yes, it's easy because you know they match and it's less fuss than trying to find something else to pair your pieces with, but when you get too matchy matchy it looks, well, I want to say lazy but I'm going to go with thoughtless? Let's see you put some effort in and find a way to incorporate the jewelry into your collection with pieces that mix and match. Or be even more thoughtful and get the set and then split it with your two closest girl friends, your mother and your sister, or maybe your mother and grandmother to name a few ideas.
BUILD INTO IT
Some of the best outfits are just like some of the best paintings. Layer upon layer creates richness and depth. Starting with the first layer and building on that is how you end up with the final presentation of something to be admired. We like to start with the first layer, something delicate lace from Only Hearts- sheer and pretty with intricate details to set the tone. Then comes the So Fine tank, crafted from no cling fabric that gives you a smooth layer that doesn't get hung up on anything going under or over it. Now that we've established a nice solid base, we can add the main subjects- in this case the Blue Shirt Shop layer! This is what people see first - the main focus of the outfit. It has details, what people appreciate as they continue to take it in. They appreciate the thought that goes into the the outfit as a whole. We love the little buildings scattered across the button down and had fun with props for this photo!
PARTY IN THE BACK (OF THE EAR)
Jacket earrings are so fun, and this one is no exception! I love the mini burst coming from behind the ear, it's like a little firework show for these city buildings on the shirt. Set in gunmetal, it has darker tones and will go with any outfit that has black in it or cool jewel tones. In this photo the stones are really catching the colors in the light around it.
TEXTURE VS COLOR
When you just can't go for color, use texture and shape to captivate. What makes this little piece fun is the pattern set into the fabric and the use of texture it creates, plus having the lining cut a bit short shows a wide section of peekaboo at the hem. We love how it allows a view of leg, without showing too much - especially since we're playing a balancing act with the amount of skin put on display with this neckline. Easy summer dresses are supposed to be just that, easy! Pull it on when you want to feel pretty but don't want to go through all the effort of looking super dressed up. This can easily be worn with a pony tail and sandals, or - as shown- with elegant accessories to elevate the look!
PROPER USE OF SHADOWS
Gunmetal and antique gold jewelry compliment an all black outfit for obvious reasons, they're darker metals, therefore they match. But, the intriguing part of it is the shadows and depth they create. With the darker metals, the highlights can really jump because they're given so much contrast. But, mixing metals?? Are we crazy?? Yes and no. We're admittedly crazy, but not when it comes to this - no longer do you have to choose between your metals, feel free to mix them (as long as you're being intentional) and worry less about the zipper on the back of your dress or the hardware on your handbag, because you've just given yourself the green light to go bananas!
A GIRL CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH DENIM
Usually we are referring to getting another pair of I-can't-live-without-them jeans. But, in this case we are looking at a full length denim dress. The softest denim shirt we've ever known, is now available as a maxi dress! Why deprive yourself of something you love so much? If you love denim, wear it - all over!
MORE IS MORE
Mixed media art refers to a visual art form that combines a variety of distinct visual art media in a single artwork. This is our favorite kind! These earrings feature crystals, tiny swooping antique gold chains hugging a dropping pearl. These earrings just couldn't stop at one distinct media, so they kept piling it on until it looked just right. For those days you can't decide between diamonds or pearls, we say both! With such a beautiful collection of jewels you have plenty of options to pair with - you can easily go for a strand of pearls - or as shown, a beautiful glitzy antique gold necklace.
LET THE CREATIVITY FLOW
From your head down to your toes! The key to creativity is being open, allowing all the positivity in so you are accepting of inspiration. Push out the negativity, frustration and pressure of your daily life so there's only room left for joy. Like the open slit of the hem of this skirt, the open toes of these Prada wedges, be open!
NO COLOR IS BETTER THAN BLACK
There are many other colors that we all love, or ones that make us happy, but none are as practical or flattering as black, our favorite color. We think of fashion, or rather style, as a function of art, constantly reflecting changes in our society. It is a very emotional thing to many, because it is an expression of who you are and the way you want the world to see you. This halter dress from Only Hearts says that you have a discerning eye and impeccable taste.
TIME TO CURATE, NOT COLLECT
Collecting simply means to consume more (aka quantity), but to curate is to be selective (aka quality, or fulfilling a specific role). Each of these pieces of jewelry was intentionally selected to fulfill a role. So as you complete your outfit for the day, try to consider how each piece will work with and what it represents within your current wardrobe. This trick is also useful when are purchasing jewelry! Are you just buying more of the same thing, like a collector, or are you adding a piece that fulfills a role that is currently void? The time to curate is now.
Is fashion a form of art? Absolutely, and to us, being able to express your personal style is an art because you are showing the world a reflection of what is going on inside of yourself, much like an artist would with their paintings. You know them when you see them. They are the ones that come off all cool and effortless, but with that little something that expresses their personality. Fashion is very powerful means of expression, and therefore the line is blurry between fashion and art but the lines on this linen top aren't blurred at all ;)
FREEDOM OF STYLE
Slipping on a statement piece of jewelry, like this fabulous ring, is like adding a piece of visually stimulating art to a canvas, it now possesses more style, depth and authenticity. Don’t be concerned with passing trends, think of jewelry as a way to be expressive.
Why would you want to ever hold back on something that can be so limitless? Fashion, like art, is about freedom. The freedom of style.
EVERYDAY ART, IS ART JUST THE SAME
For fashion to be art, it does not just have to be elaborate couture dresses, it can just as easily be your everyday uniform. That doesn’t mean you wear the same thing everyday (I know you were worried for a minute Mom). Having a uniform simply means possessing articles of clothing and accessories that work during any season, take absolutely no effort to style, and are representative of the overall view of yourself. A denim shirt is one of those pieces you can always go to, because no matter where you are, or what you are doing, they just work. We style them with just about everything, including cocktail dresses!
Do your accessories need to be fine jewelry to be representative of your style? Nope. While there may be a old debate between the two, fine art is no more pure than applied art. In fact, I would even state that the opposite is true, because applied art is a pure reflection of modern culture versus an idealized version.
Just as an artist paints to depict what they feel, using your clothing to express your personality and feelings is extremely liberating. As women, we see art all around us and fashion is quite literally a fabrication of that art. So go ahead and embrace your feminine self and wear the pink jeans, because like art, your clothing is meant to be thought-provoking, and convey a feeling in a way that nothing else can.
Jewelry is a form of wearable art, but it is incomplete until someone actually wears it. Jewelry wants admiration and interpretation. It’s the fusion with your wardrobe, to an end product that makes it an artist statement. What wearable art will you showcase today?
Art is any self expression that is consciously made and displayed, including what a person wears. Your clothing, and ultimately how you style yourself creates a visual impression that is unique and that cannot be communicated through any other artistic medium. It is a rapidly evolving art form that is constantly changing with a sense of newness and modernity.
NO SECRET HERE
Life might be a mystery, but our style is no secret - we love gunmetal jewelry! It goes great with our favorite color, black 😜 and every color in between.
YOUR WARDROBE IS A SYSTEM
Or at least, it should be. But no system functions optimally without a solid structure to build upon. We encourage our clients to build a strategy for a functional wardrobe, rather than adding in random pieces hoping it will all come together somehow. That is what is so great about these shirts from The Blue Shirt Shop! They effortlessly mix and match within your wardrobe. How you style it, is what makes it yours, so go ahead and be an artist of style!
THERE IS NOTHING MORE ARTISTIC THAN TO LOVE OTHERS - VAN GOGH
This is so true! We love our clients and we want to help you look your best, in a style that is unique to you.
According to Greek mythology, the anemone sprang from Aphrodite's tears as she mourned the death of Adonis. Thought to bring luck and protect against evil, legend has it that when the anemone closes its petals, it's a signal that rain is approaching. Don't you just love that? This flower, set in rose gold is perpetually open, so it stands to reason, there will always be good luck, and never "rain" but eternal sunshine! (symbolically speaking) Of course, to anyone else, they just see a pretty rose gold flower ring with a few purple stones in it, but the extra meaning, is what makes it special to you, and perhaps to the person you received it from, or are giving it to - whichever the case may be.
